RA

Definition: RA is the pseudo-randomly selected access channel number used by a mobile. Before transmitting each access probe sequence, the mobile calculates a uniformly distributed random number which ranges from zero to ACC_CHAN, which is one less than the number of access channels supported by the paging channel being monitored by the mobile. A different value of RA is used for each probe sequence, but the same RA is used for all the probes of a given probe sequence.

    RA

    Example:
Suppose the paging channel being monitored by a mobile supports 6 access channels. Then ACC_CHAN equals 5. RA is a pseudo-randomly selected number within the range from zero to 5. Any number in this range is equally likely.
