Pulse Code Modulation
Note that the sampling process is essentially defining the Time-axis (X-axis) while the Quantization process is defining the Amplitude-axis (Y-axis).
This "cartesian coordinate system" allows us to define in a unique manner, any point in time (X-axis) at any level (Y-axis) of our speech waveform.
This process is referred to as Pulse Code Modulation or PCM.
