The Pilot Channels
By Dr. Ernest Simo

2.0 The Forward Pilot Channels

In CDMA2000, five types of pilot channels are used. The Forward Pilot Channel (F-PICH), the Transmit Delivery Channel (F-TDPICH), the Auxiliary Pilot Channels (F-APICH), the Auxiliary Transmit Diversity Pilot Channels (F-ATDPICH) and the Dedicated-Auxiliary Pilot Channel (F-DAPICH) are unmodulated spread spectrum signals used for synchronization by a mobile station operating within the coverage area of the base station.
  • The Forward Pilot Channel is transmitted at all times by the base station on each active Forward CDMA channel.

  • The Transmit Diversity Pilot Channel

  • The Auxiliary Pilot channel is transmitted in a beam forming application.

  • The Auxiliary Transmit Diversity Pilot Channels are transmitted when transmit diversity is used.

  • An optional Auxiliary Dedicated Pilot Channel is also available.
