CDMA 2000: The Forward Link Channels
By Dr. Ernest Simo

1.0 Forward Link Description

  • The cdma2000 standard prescribes a set of "Forward Link channel options" depending on Radio configuration scenarios.

  • To reduce intra-cell interference, each forward link physical channel is modulated by an appropriate Walsh code or quasi-orthogonal function.

  • Each code channel is then spread by a quadrature pair of PN sequences at a fixed chip rate of 3.6864 Mcps for DS operation or 1.2288 Mcps for MC operation.

  • Multiple Forward CDMA Channels may be used within a base station in a frequency division multiplexed manner.

  • This "suite" of channel options can be customized to support a desired set of concurrent services. They Include:

  • The Forward Pilot Channels
    • The Common Pilot
    • The Diversity Common Pilot
    • The Auxiliary Pilot
    • The Auxiliary Diversity Pilot
    • The Dedicated Auxiliary Pilot

  • The Synchronization Channel
    • The Sync Channel
    • The Wideband Sync channel for higher RCs

  • The Idle State Channels
    • The Quick Paging Channel
    • The Broadcast Channel
    • The Paging Channel
    • The Common Control Channel
    • The Common Assignment Channel
    • The Common Power Control Channel

  • The Forward Traffic Channels
    • The Fundamental Channel
    • The Supplemental Code Channel
