From Here to There: A Migration Scenario
By Dr. Ernest Simo

1.0 A Possible Overlay Migration Path

CDMA-One evolution offers operators Migration towards high-speed data in manageable steps:
  • We start with a 1.25 MHz block (F1) of an exsisting analog (1G) spectrum as our first CDMA carrier. Here, we must use the currentluy available IS-95 A (2G) Technology to offer up to 14.4 kbps Data services.

  • As today's cdmaOne operator sees a need for increased capacity or would like to offer ISDN data rates to its subscribers. IS-85B (2.5G) provides that upgrade. This upgrade allows an operator to double the Network capacity and offer high-speed data access at a transmission rate comparable to landline's ISDN services. So, as traffic requirements and capacity needs increase, we can deploy a second (F2) and possibly a third CDMAone carrier (F3) to offer up to 64 Kbps data services.
