Introduction and Forward Link Power Control
By Dr. Ernest Simo

33.0 How does Forward Link Power Control effect system performance?

Forward Link Power Control refers to strategies and procedures used or required to adjust, correct and manage the transmitted power from the Base Station to each individual Handset.

The Forward Link Power Control Strategy involves the Base Station and the Mobile Unit.. Here, the Mobile Unit continuously measures the Forward Traffic Channels FER . It then reports this measurement to the Base:
  • On a Periodic basis
  • As a report by exception
I.E when the FER exceeds a given Threshold
After receiving the Measurement Report, the Base station can then take the appropriate action to increase or decrease power on the measured logical channel.
