ACC_CHAN
Definition: ACC_CHAN is one less than the number of access channels supported or associated with a particular paging channel. It is used to inform the mobiles how many access channels are available to the mobile for use during an access attempt.

Example: The maximum number of access channels per paging channel equals 32. In this maximum case, ACC_CHAN equals decimal 31 or binary 11111. In keeping with this maximum value, the ACC_CHAN field in the Access Parameters Message is 5 bits. At initial roll-out, the number of assess channels is likely to be rather small, say 2 to 8. Supporting just a few access attempts also helps lower initial costs since fewer access channel cards need to be bought and installed. As more subscribers are added to the system and the probability of access-attempt failure increases, the number of access channels for a given paging channel is expected to increase. Ultimately, after the existing paging channel has 32 access channels, the number of paging channels may have to be increased so that more access channels can be made available.
