PN Sequences

2.0 Some Useful PN Codes Properties
The Property of Balance

Consider the PN sequences Ci(t) and Cj(t) generated previously:
  • Ci(t)= 1 0 0 1 1 1 0
  • Cj(t)= 1 0 0 1 0 1 1
It can be demonstrated that the ratio of "ones" and "zeros" in a Maximum Length PN Sequence is as follows:
  • Number of "ones" = 2N/2
  • Number of "zeros" = 2N/2-1
  • Where N is the number of stages of the Linear Shift Register
In our examples, Ci(t) and Cj(t) are generated by a three-stage Linear Shift Register. Therefore:
  • Number of "ones" = 23/2 = 4
  • Number of "zeros" = 23/2-1 = 3
