FDMA-TDMA-CDMA: An Introduction
By Dr. Ernest Simo

4.0 CODE DIVISION MULTIPLE ACCESS

In CDMA systems, given a Freqency, a channel is a Code Gate. Here, a channel is defined as a Code coupled to a Frequency slice. It is a two-dimensional entity expressed as (Fi, Cj):
  • Having a Frequency (Fi) is a necessary, but not sufficient, condition to defining a CDMA channel.
  • Having a Code (Cj) is a necessary, but not sufficient, condition to defining a CDMA channel.
  • We require both the Frequency and Code dimensions.
CDMA may be regarded as a co-channel interference problem in the Frequency Dimension. However, this problem will be successfully managed in the Code Dimension.
